The Opportunity:
The Department of Parliamentary Services is recruiting for multiple positions within the Collections Care unit of the Art Collections section, Design Integrity and Collections Branch. This recruitment will be used to fill three ongoing vacancies and to form a merit pool for ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies in similar roles within the next 12 months.
The Art Collections team is responsible for the custody, care, development, and promotion of the Parliament House Art Collections. The Parliament House Art Collections are nationally significant and consist of more than 6,000 works spanning all genres of Australian art. The collections were created to be an essential element of the building’s architectural fabric and working life reflecting the unique qualities of Australia. They include the Historic Memorials Collection, Parliament House Art/Craft Program (architectural commissions), Official Gifts Collection, Rotational Collection of contemporary art, and Archive Collection of supporting material.
The successful candidates will work in one of three teams within the Collections Care unit. The Collections Care unit performs a variety of functions to ensure the conservation, documentation and safe access to the Parliament House Art Collections as well as inward loans.
The positions vacant include:

Conservator PSL5:
Contribute technical conservation and project management expertise to preserve Parliament House Art Collections (and associated materials such as inwards loans) during storage, transport and display at Parliament House and external facilities where required.

Projects Coordinator PSL5:
Coordinate logistics associated with the preventive conservation of Parliament House Art Collections (via methodology adjustment, protection and/or relocation) to accommodate capital works and maintenance projects within the parliamentary precinct.

Collections Management Officer PSL5:
Coordinate the creation and maintenance of collection information for the Parliament House Art Collections via collection registration processes (such as cataloguing, accessioning, de-accessioning, stocktake, location control, basic condition reporting).

Who we are looking for:
We’re seeking experienced professionals with strong skills and experience in one or more of the above areas – conservation (preventive and remedial), collection handling and logistics, collection management systems and practice. Candidates with a strong track record in one or more of these areas, including strong interpersonal, and project management skills are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will bring significant knowledge of working with collections, excellent written communication skills across a range of contexts, and substantial experience delivering complex projects in a cultural institution context.

Tertiary qualifications in Conservation, Museum Practice, Heritage Management, Collection Management, or a similar field; and relevant experience within a gallery, museum or similar organisation will be well regarded. Previous experience using a variety of collection and data management systems such as Vernon Collection Management System (CMS) software and Fotoware Digital Asset Management Systems will also be highly regarded.
The successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance and be available to work on-site at Australian Parliament House on a regular basis.
